Brighter Days Ahead: A Solstice Celebration!

You are invited… please join us…

Comfort & Joy invites YOU to spend the longest night of the year at an epic Solstice Celebration in the heart of the Mission! “Brighter Days Ahead” is a festive faerie bacchanal packed with surreal art, outrageous performance, visionary multimedia & fabulous costumes.

Join us for a lavish buffet feast, with holiday ritual by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, aerial shenanigans by hunky gay acrobats, an outrageously colorful vaudeville show hosted by Ginger Snap & a dancefloor that goes until 2am.

COME EARLY for “CLAIRE”

We have a unique treat in store for those who come early to next week’s Solstice Celebration: A rare screening of “Claire de Lune”, a legendary short film produced by Short Mountain residents & starring Sister Mish!

Claire de Lune tells the story of a childless elderly gay couple who discover a fairy princess made of moonlight in an ear of corn who brings wonder and miraculous healing to their lives. Claire creates timeless wonderment and magic. It’s a true delight.

The story behind this 40-minute silent film is also captivating. It begins when Milford Thomas found a 1920’s era hand-crank Mitchell-Standard motion-picture camera at a garage sale. Then employed as a waiter in Atlanta, Georgia, Thomas started hosting parties/happenings in Atlanta’s mostly- deserted warehouse district to raise money for his first feature film. The debut fundraiser allowed Thomas to pay a clockmaker to repair the vintage camera. All of the special effects and production techniques in Claire are as old as that hand-crank machine, and the results are remarkable.

Saturday’s Solstice Celebration begins as dusk approaches at 4pm, with a Silent Art Auction featuring fabulous cheap art + luscious sounds by DJs Neco D and J. Maximilian. See a special presentation of “Claire du Lune” at 5pm (one hour after the Silent Art Auction begins at 4pm), introduced by Jok Church, who will tell the story of Claire’s six year journey from Garage Sale to Feature Film celebrated at film festivals around the world.

Stay after the film for a lavish buffet Feast at 6pm, followed by an evening filled with art, outrageous entertainment, aerial performances by hunky gay acrobats, ritual by STORM, Rio & the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, with elaborate art installations, faerie DJs and festive celebration galore.
